Entry Procedure to Nepal

Visa Information:

All foreign visitors, excluding Indians, are required to have a valid passport and a visa to enter Nepal. Visas can be obtained from Nepalese diplomatic missions and consular offices abroad or upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and other entry points. However, please note that citizens of certain countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, and Afghanistan, are not eligible for a visa upon arrival.

Tourist Visa:

  • Tourist visas are granted for a maximum of 150 days in a visa year (Jan-Dec).
  • Visitors departing before the visa expiry may not add the remaining days to another visa year.
  • If a foreigner entering Nepal towards the end of a visa year wishes to stay during the overlapping period with another visa year, they may do so. However, fees for this period will be calculated based on the total stay.

Transit Visa:

  • Foreigners staying for a night in Nepal and using Nepal's airport to visit another country with a plane ticket can obtain a transit visa.
  • Transit visas are issued for one day in case of travelers on accidentally force-landed planes.

Visa Fees:

  • USD 25 for a Tourist Visa with multiple entries for 15 days.
  • USD 40 for a Tourist Visa with multiple entries for 30 days.
  • USD 100 for a Tourist Visa with multiple entries for 100 days.

Other Banking Information:

Foreign Exchange:

Foreign currencies must be exchanged only at banks or authorized foreign exchange dealers. Retain receipts for such transactions. Foreigners can also exchange money at the foreign exchange counter at TIA upon arrival.

Banks:

Nepal has modern banking facilities, and international banks have offices in Kathmandu. Major hotels, shops, and restaurants accept almost all foreign currencies and major credit cards.

Time:

Nepal Standard Time is 5 hours 45 minutes ahead of GMT and 15 minutes ahead of Indian Standard Time.

Official Holidays:

Saturday is the weekend holiday in Nepal, with most government offices closed. However, many businesses remain open on Saturdays and public holidays.

Working Hours:

Government offices open from 10:00 AM to 05:00 PM in summer and 10:00 AM to 04:00 PM in winter.
